I want to believe...

...there will be a third X-Files film.

Just 'cause you believe something, doesn't mean it'll come true. sniff.

While, releasing a genre movie a week in the wake of atom bomb that is THE DARK KNIGHT would seem like suicide, it doesn't really help when in a season of summer blockbusters the genre film you release is a subtle, underwhelming thriller based off a TV show that sort of outstayed it's welcome be 3 seasons.

Now don't get me wrong, I love the X-Files. I was a stalwart fan, tried and true, sticking with the show and it's spin offs through thick and thin. And, in a brief flash of fanboyism, I liked XFIWTB (Xfiles:I want to believe), and dare say it can hold it's own to THE DARK KNIGHT, as grossly a miscalculated a film it is.

This is not to say I'm not pissed to all hell that the XFIWTB was flawed, and not the movie it should have been. Yes, there's hope that if a third film is made, it wil close out the Xfiles mytharc in grand fashion with an alien invasion prophesized in the series to happen on Dec. 22nd, 2012.

What gets me is that this film was an attempt to get a new audience, an audience that basically said IDK and IDC to the Xfiles franchise, as evidenced by the XFIWTB's opening weekend grosses. My hope is that it does well over seas and on DVD, or else X-philes will never get what they deserve. Closure. This film should've been about that. It should've been for the fans, the hard cores, the only ones who actually wanted this movie to happen. Not some vague demographic that could line Fox's pockets had the film been a success. And, if they wanted to make a modern, pop corn thriller, they should've hired X-files alumni Morgan and Wong, who have had recent film 'success' with a string of teeny-bopper slasher flicks. They at least know how to tap into the current pop culture zeitgeist.

Yes, Chris Carter has said that if this is the last X-files story ever told, they did close out Mulder and Scully's tale to their satisfaction. And I agree. I'm actually very pleased with how the character's have aged and developed over the past 6 years since the show ended. But, I want aliens damnit! I want Mulder to find his "dead" sister".

Anyway... that's my rant. The film was horribly marketed and released out of season.

"Fanboys" rejoice.

The term fanboy has been added to Websters Dictionary.

I'm sure PWN is next up on the dockett!

a post.

Well, that was a week.

Not much happened, just tons of freelance rewriting (I re-write Korean comics for money!),taking care of my sick pregnant wife which included a visit to the hospital (it's all good, now), trying to enjoy a pseudo long weekend which celebrates my home country's b-day, playing through Metal Gear Solid 4 multiple times to get different rankings, and trying to write/prepare some story pitches.

The first two tings I mentioned took up the bulk of the week. I did squeeze in a viewing of WANTED, which, though it was very note for note a cover version of the Matrix, I would consider one of the best action flicks since the... um, Matrix. I did not see Wall-E, it's stellar reviews notwithstanding. And, no, I didn't choose Wanted over Pixar's sci-fi opus because of a gratuitous Angelina Jolie butt shot. I just happen to love Night Watch/Day Watch(pedigree of Wanted's director) much more than I do previous Pixar works.

Also, there is a haunting vid of a vocalist singing Somewhere over the rainbow backwards. It's pretty cool. And her explanation of the process is awesome too...

Back to the grind.
