spreadable art product

I envy creatives or artists, or what ever you want to call them who have it all figured out. You know the ones who have their style down pat, who have found their voice. The people that know exactly what they want out of their craft, and are endeavoring to achieve their goals.

Unfortunately, though I've been making a living as a freelance writer.artist for about a decade, do not fall into the aforementioned category of artists. Everyday is a struggle to find that voice, that angle for me to tackle in my creative work that will set me apart. The style that makes me unique. My schtick.

I don't have one. I'm most "known" for doing a comic that came out a few years ago, that was lucky enough to get recognition in the industry via an Eisner Award nomination. But, I really didn't want to be pigeon holed or infact state that the comic Kissing Chaos is my style. Since then I've been doing various type of freelance art gigs, in and out of the comics scene, dabbling in illustration and film and advertising. I've even written scripts, prose and developed properties for various companies.

Now, this is all well and good, as I've had some great experiences, met cool people and I haven't starved to death. I have basic skills in various forms of art, and I guess I'm quite well rounded. But somehow, I have this inkling that my work isn't as fulfilling as the work of those artists who do one thing, and one thing really well.

I even toy around with music and animation as a hobby, with aspirations of making a living off those projects too.

Am I spreading myself too thin? Is wearing many hats and not really focusing on one particular aspect of art diluting what could be a rewarding career in art? Essentially rendering cheezwhiz out of what could be, um... good cheese. Should I just pick one thing, and do that for a decade and see what happens?

Just some thoughts...

Plus, I'm reading this book for the pitch of a potential TV project. (and comic project, but that comes secondary) I just found out that George Clooney is adapting this into a film...

I'm not sure how often the 13th falls on a friday... but I'm sure it happening two months in a row is a bad omen or something....

Experiment time. I'm gonna do twitter movie reviews, tweeting whenever I am so moved, at various times during the film. Here are the results of my first flick which I "enjoyed" last night. This is my first try, so bear with me...
