thanks America, for proving me wrong!

If you had asked me when I was a teenager if I ever thought I'd live to see the United States of America with a black president, I would've slapped you and said "Heeeelllll noooo!". Heck, (yeah, 'heck') if you had asked me a year ago I'd still be skeptical.

I can say my mind has officially been blown, and want to thank the superduper large American voter turnout on Nov 4th for proving me wrong.

This morning on CBC newsworld, there was a video montage of various footage captured over the past century detailing the struggles of the civil rights movement in the USA. The montage ended with a clip of Barack Obama announcing his presidential candidacy, and as I watched it, I flashed back on my experiences growing up as a visible minority in suburban Canada. Honestly, that video clip got me a bit teary-eyed. I honestly would have never thought I'd see this day. And what a day it is.
